Successful teaching in every classroom

Ensuring Consistency

Consistency, high expectations and high standards are not an ideal but rather a necessity and the drive to achieve these components should be led by highly skilled, knowledgeable and confident in- school facilitators. This virtual CPD programme will support participants in developing their understanding of greater depth teaching and learning and will seek to increase an individual’s confidence in offering the most successful learning experiences for every pupil.

A programme designed to support all teachers in increasing their knowledge and understanding of significant pedagogical techniques and teaching practices that have the greatest effect size on pupil outcomes.
This programme will offer participants with a range of practical tools for immediate use within their classrooms, along with specific examples of their use in different subject areas.

Young Students

Over six modules, participants will be supported through a series of processes for introducing, developing and embedding high-impact teaching and an ability to lead effective professional development that focuses on maximising pupil outcomes through increased human capital.

Specific aspects of teaching and learning covered through this programme will include:

  • Consistency in every classroom and every curriculum area

  • A classroom culture for successful learning

  • How different learners learn

  • Understanding high-impact pedagogical approaches

  • Principles for teaching to long-term memory

  • Moving from shallow to deeper learning...and knowing when

  • Essential skills of an effective teacher

  • Developing worthwhile and effective classroom dialogue

This programme has been designed around six key themes:

Module 1 - Considering what it takes to be successful

Module One considers issues around human capital, professional accountability and professional mindset and how the attitude of any teacher is the biggest determining factor on that individual’s successes and levels of effectiveness.

Module 2 - The key influences on pupil outcomes in any classroom

Module Two explores how an effective professional, in any setting, is able to prioritise and identify clear learning goals for professional growth. This session will consider four essential influences on pupil outcomes and how any individual can work on ensuring these are embedded within their classroom and their practice.

Module 3 - Pedagogical Expertise - Part 1

Module three begins to consider pedagogy, pedagogical approaches and specific classroom techniques that have a significant impact on pupil learning. Individuals will be supported in taking a rigorous and analytical inquiry into their own classroom practice, reflecting on strengths and weakness and identifying next steps.

Module 4 - Pedagogical Expertise - Part 2

Module four will consider two types of learning and how teachers and teaching assistants can plan and deliver greater-depth learning experiences. This session will consider the key strategies for deeper learning and how these can be embedded within intentionally planned learning processes. The session will also explore different types of learner and how we can vary practice to meet more specific needs.

Module 5 - Interaction, questioning and other essentials

Module five will explore classroom interaction and questioning in all its different forms. An ability to use questioning as a process to guide pupils towards a deeper level of understanding is a real art and this session will consider different taxonomies of classroom questions, how a teacher can build confidence with a range of question techniques and how a teacher can build the capacity of teaching assistants around their use of questioning.

Module 6 - Metacognition - Developing the confident learner

Module six explores the role of metacognition how a teacher can support every pupil in becoming confident as a  learner. The session will consider a range of metacognitive behaviours and the role they play in supporting every pupil becoming more confident as a learner.
