A programme designed to support all teachers in increasing their knowledge and understanding of significant pedagogical techniques and teaching practices that have the greatest effect size on pupil outcomes.
This programme will offer participants with a range of practical tools for immediate use within their classrooms, along with specific examples of their use in different subject areas.

THE MODULES

This programme has been designed around six key themes:

Module 1 - The key competencies of success

Module One considers issues around human capital, professional accountability and professional mindset and how the attitude of any teacher is the biggest determining factor on that individual’s successes and levels of effectiveness.

Module 2 - The four main influences on pupil outcomes

Module Two explores how an effective professional, in any setting, is able to prioritise and identify clear learning goals for professional growth. This session will consider four essential influences on pupil outcomes and how any individual can work on ensuring these are embedded within their classroom and their practice.

Module 3 - The key pedagogical principles for effective teaching

Module three begins to consider pedagogy, pedagogical approaches and specific classroom techniques that have a significant impact on pupil learning. Individuals will be supported in taking a rigorous and analytical inquiry into their own classroom practice, reflecting on strengths and weakness and identifying next steps.

Module 4 - From shallow to greater-depth learning

Module four will consider two types of learning and how teachers and teaching assistants can plan and deliver greater-depth learning experiences. This session will consider the key strategies for deeper learning and how these can be embedded within intentionally planned learning processes. The session will also explore different types of learner and how we can vary practice to meet more specific needs.

Module 5 - High-impact classroom interaction

Module five will explore classroom interaction and questioning in all its different forms. An ability to use questioning as a process to guide pupils towards a deeper level of understanding is a real art and this session will consider different taxonomies of classroom questions, how a teacher can build confidence with a range of question techniques and how a teacher can build the capacity of teaching assistants around their use of questioning.

Module 6 - Developing assessment-capable learners

Module six explores how a teacher can support every pupil in becoming confident as an assessment-capable learner. The session will also look to explore the role of metacognition and metacognitive behaviours and the role they play in supporting every pupil becoming more confident as a learner.
